What makes up the magic of the cities in Friuli Venezia Giulia, their elegant and slightly reserved aloof atmosphere, which is so different from the other cities in Italy? The difference lies in the history of these places: Celts, Romans, Longobards, the Republic of Venice and the Hapsburgs all found on this land an area to settle in.
When you walk through the streets of Trieste,
visit the borough called Borgo Teresiano with its austere
and stern style which will recall Vienna to your mind,
stop and breathe the Mittel-European atmosphere of its
caf�s, walk along the same streets where James Joyce or
Italo Svevo used to walk. Trieste is art and culture of
Europe.
Otherwise, you can discover the fascinating Venetian style Udine, the beauty of its squares, of the Loggia del Lionello, of its Clock Tower. Let the frescoes by Gianbattista Tiepolo enchant you as you walk around the Palazzo Arcivescovile (the Archbishop’s Palace) and admire the roof-tops of Udine from the belvedere of its Castle; from this observation point, one glance will embrace the whole of Friuli right up to its mountain peaks.
Visit the city of Pordenone, with its
majestic buildings dating back to 1500, the Romanic
churches, the Gothic and Baroque style constructions, the
historical town center which spells out a long line of
porticoes and frescoed facades.
Gorizia, an elegant Mittel-European city on the border with Slovenia, is the place of meeting of many different cultures; this is its characteristic feature which is perceivable when looking at its architecture and its monuments.
Everywhere you go, you will feel immersed in a unique and different environment for the art, atmosphere and tastes of the specialties served here.
