Piedmont itineraries

Art, history, lakes, mountains, wines and truffles: there are many ways to describe Piedmont. This is an area rich in ancient traditions, unique sceneries and thousands of suggestions for your spare time.

Piedmont The Circuit of the Savoy Residences

In addition to XVIII century palaces and squares in Turin, the capital of Baroque art and culture, Piedmont boasts a surprising circuit of great historical and architectural interest, recognized as a world heritage site by Unesco in 1997. This consists of the Savoy Residences - Stupinigi hunting lodge designed by Juvarra, the castles of Rivoli, Venaria, Aglio', Moncalieri, Racconigi, Govone and Pollenzo - easily reachable from Turin.

Moving towards other Piedmontese towns, you can discover real jewels belonging to the Medieval Age such as the Abbey of Vezzolano, near Asti, or the Abbey of Sant’Andrea, one of the Romanesque art masterpiece near Vercelli.

The Olympic Mountains

The Piedmontes Alps were the natural home for the Olympic Winter Games 2006. Resorts such as Sestrière, San Sicario, Sauze d’Oulx, Clavière, Cesana, Bardonecchia e Pragelato (Valle di Susa) welcome not only Olympic athletes but also thousands of mountain lovers.

Piedmont Olympic mountainsThe Valle di Susa is not the only resort loved by skiers and sport people: Limone Piedmont is the perfect setting to ski near Cuneo, while the Valsesia presents an unforgettable view of Monte Rosa.

Mountains do not imply just skiing. In the Piedmontese Alps you can find unique natural oases such as Gran Paradiso national park, in the area of Canavese, or the parks of Orsiera – Rocciavrè, Val Troncea and Gran Bosco di Salbertrand, in the Valle di Susa.

The Lakes

The Piedmontese lakes are precious jewels set in imposing and poetic landscapes, where nature has blent with architecture and blue, deep water has joined to green, luxuriant vegetation.

Together with the Isole Borromee, Lago Maggiore is one of the most precious pearl: it has always been an educated, cultured people’s holiday resort, appreciated both for its splendid residences and botanic gardens, such as Villa Taranto (Verbania), and natural surroundings with its breathtaking views. Do not miss Villa Pallavicino at Stresa, S. Carlone statue at Arona, Isola Madre, Isola Bella, Isola dei Pescatori, unique wonderful gems.

Piedmont eoeno-gastronomyAnother natural Piedmont treasure is Lago d’Orta, with Isola di S. Giulio.
Discover the beauties of less famous lakes of Viverone, Candia and Avigliana in the west of Piedmont. In addition, you will have the opportunity to do many sports such as sailing, windsurf, riding, playing golf, trekking, mountain bike, hang-gliding and paragliding from the surrounding mountains.

The Enogastronomy

Food and wines represent two characterizing Piedmont aspects which are worth to be discovered. All the squares, hills and farmhouses are full of unique enogastronomic tradition.
The areas of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato are the home of Piedmontese cuisine and wines, where the ‘Slow Food’ itineraries have been created to satisfy the most exacting gourmets.
Cherasco, Bra, Barolo, Pollenzo, Asti e Alba boast the finest wines, such as Barolo, Dolcetto, Barbaresco, Moscato, Arneis, Barbera, Favorita, Nebbiolo and sparkling wines appreciated all over the world.
Moreover Alba is famous for its white truffles, real miracles of nature, essential ingredients in many sophisticated recipes.
In addition to wines and truffles, Piedmont is famous for its cheese, such as Castelmagno of Cuneo valleys, Val di Lanzo cheese, gorgonzola (blue cheese) of Novara and Robiola of valleys near Mondovi' and Saluzzo.
Piedmont can also satisfy sweet tooth people with chocolate in all its forms: from famous Turin gianduiotti, to Baci of Cherasco or famous Cunesi made of chocolate and rhum.
