Macugnaga Monte RosaWinter sports in Macugnaga

Macugnaga itself is delightful, with interesting paths leading to the the older parts of the village where you will discover small shops, cafès and bars.

The skiing

At the foot of the magnificent Monte Rosa, the picturesque resort of Macugnaga is surrounded by stunning mountains. Both areas, Pecetto, the quieter end of the village and Macugnaga center (also known as Staffa) each have their own small ski area and there is a local ski bus which runs during the day to take you the short journey from one to the other (at a small local charge).

Skiing and boarding here is ideal for beginners as the slopes are wide and un-crowded.

MacugnagaAdvanced skiers may find it limited but you will enjoy the fast red and black runs on the Monte Morro. Black runs are often left un-pisted after a snowfall.

Lower intermediates will appreciate the gentle, forgiving runs of the Belvedere whilst more adventurous skiers will revel in the challenge of the red runs higher up. Good intermediates can venture off piste and have their first go at powder skiing when conditions are right.

A perfect place to learn to ski and snowboard with an excellent ski school and nursery slopes.

Children from 5 years can attend ski school.

Highly recommended for learning to snowboard, as the runs in Macugnaga are long and wide with fresh powder alongside and in between the pisted runs. There is also a terrain park with rails and jumps. The resort is limited for experienced boarders.

Apres ski
Macugnaga has a small selection of bars, try the Mignon bar or the Flizzi bar and head onto the Big Ben for a spot of late night reveling. The resort also has a number of restaurants to suit everybody’s taste. The après-ski here is quiet, friendly and informal and the resident Neilson Resort Manager will organize various nights out.
