Savors and flavors of the cuisine,
typical products and quality shopping
The discoveries to be made in our
province can also continue into lunch or dinner, but here
they will be of a gastronomic kind, to be enjoyed in the osterias or trattorias of the towns, or for
lovers ofthe countryside, in some rural holiday
center along one of the proposed itineraries.
In Valdarno you can begin with the "stufato
alla sangiovannese", a flavorsome dish based on slowly
stewed meat richly laden with spices, continuing with the "arrosto
girato" roast or the Valdarno chicken cooked with
tomatoes, all delightfully washed down by the best wines of
the region.
In Valdichiana, the exclusive
breeding-ground for a prized breed of cattle known not
unsurprisingly as Chianina, you can savor succulent
grilled beefsteaks accompanied by the red wines of the
Cortona vineyards.
In Valtiberina the local cuisine proposes ciaccia (oily bread), bringoli (thick
spaghetti made of wheat flour and water) varied game,
truffles, porcini and prugnoli mushrooms, home-made
desserts, and to round it all off a fine glass of vin santo.
After having been carried away by the
beauties of the art and the landscape, if you still have
some time at your disposal, you can browse around the
numerous shops of the valleys in search of some tasty
delicacy or item of clothing. High fashion clothing and
leather goods, glass and crystal, wine and oil, zolfini
beans, flour made from the Pratomagno chestnuts and the
prized prosciutto from the Valdarno mountain region are just
some of the numerous specialty products that you can buy in
the Valdarno.
In the craft workshops of the Valtiberina
and the Valdichiana you can find articles in ceramic and
wood, fabric and lace, while if you are an antique lover you
will simply be spoilt for choice by the numerous shops to be
found in the old towns and villages.
