Liguria Wine:

Liguria is a very small wine-producing region located in northwest Italy on the Ligurian Sea. This area is on the Italian Riviera and includes well-known resorts areas like Potofino and San Remo, as well as the port city of Genoa. Liguria's wine production is one of the smallest of the twenty Italian wine-producing regions, and it contains only eight DOCs. The main grapes used for white wines are VERMENTINO and PIGATO; red and ROSÉ wines use DOLCETTO (called Ormeasco or Sciacchetra locally) and Rossese.

DOC stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata, which may be translated as Denomination of Controlled Origin. Almost 14% of Ligurian wine carries the DOC. Liguria is home to almost three dozen major and secondary grape varieties, somewhat more white than red varieties... read the entire article...
